If I Kiss You, Will I Get Diabetes? - Book Review

I can’t imagine how does a child’s live with diabetes. At the age when they should play cheerfully, have snacks and sweet drink without being limited by illness. But that will never happen in the lives of children with type 1 diabetes.
I am a type 1 diabetes survivor, I found this disease five years ago. Since adolescence, I have a tendency for high blood sugar. So that I still live my childhood like normal children. Even so, I am a child who doesn't like sweets, cakes, and sweet snacks. For your information, type 1 diabetes can be suffered by children and even babies because this type is experienced due to the dysfunction of the pancreas in producing insulin.

If I kiss you will I get diabetes book review

One month ago I found this book: If I Kiss You Will I Get Diabetes? written by Quinn Nystrom. This is such an open the gate to the knowledge of childhood diabetes. From this book, I know how children live with type 1 diabetes, how they control their life, and how they struggle to maintain their health.
There's something special about Quinn's life. Some people found their calling late in life. Quinn found hers at the age of 10, when her five-year-old brother, Will, was hospitalized with type 1 diabetes. She began knocking on neighborhood doors in her small northern Minnesota town to raise money for a cure for diabetes. Three years later she was diagnosed with diabetes and re-doubled her efforts. There is one interesting paragraph in this book:
"There is no easing into diabetes. It's like an unwelcome, demanding visitor barges into the house and refuses to leave. In fact, it makes it clear it will be here for the rest of your life. No wonder they call the disease die-abetes. That is exactly what it feels like. "

Yes, I really feel the presence of diabetes as Quinn wrote. He is always there, demanding to be cared for. For example, even though I have been on diet, he still gives the signs of presence! Stress, a little tired, and even a bit of excessive activity can make it demand attention too.
Quinn has also been an activist who helps children her age to fight type 1 diabetes. She doesn't waste life even in sickness. Utilizing the time that available to motivate and help other survivors, that's what Quinn has done until now.
Since a year ago I also had a passion to spread useful information to the public about diabetes, because it turns out that although this disease has been discovered hundreds of years ago, many people don’t have a prior knowledge about diabetes so they delivered wrong treatment to family, friends or themselves. I spread this information through social media because I currently live in the rural area so it will be hard to reach other areas or institutions for this activities.
If you or your family have type 1 diabetes, this book will motivate you to live better. Reading this book is like hearing Quinn speak directly to you. Want to know better about Quinn Nystrom? Follow Quinn's Facebook here and her Twitter here.
