This Is What Happened When A Teenager Make Bakpia

When I read about Choctoberfest, first come in my mind is to make Indonesian snack that using chocolate… a lot of chocolate! I thought about some kind of cakes, but cakes are not originally from Indonesia. Friends suggested me to make some kind of snacks, but I can’t make them, I left my tools to make those snacks in my home. As I mention in my earlier post, I live far away from home.
Then a friend suggested me to make: bakpia! Bakpia is actually not original from Indonesia, but Indonesian had been modified bakpia so it’s been said that bakpia is Indonesian snack. Bakpia is a snack that made of flour, filled with chocolate, cheese, mung bean, green tea, or even pork meat!
This is what happened when a teenager make bakpia
Years ago, I made and sold bakpia. My friends knew me as the bakpia super chef… lol! Yeah, I cooked cheese bakpia, chocolate bakpia, and mung bean bakpia! They said my bakpia is so delicious. My bakpia brand is “CookMary”, but since I move to this remote coastal area I’m not sale bakpia anymore…. Mmm…. Maybe someday!
For Choctoberfest event, I made bakpia with my son. Oh, he was so helpful and he made humor. He said that it will be better if we listen to the music while made bakpia, so it will not boring. Hhmmm… I think that’s a good idea! Because making bakpia takes a long time and sometimes feels boring. Thank God I accompanied by him, we had a lot of conversation on so many topics: history, music, and games! Cooking with the teenager is so much fun!
OK, here is the recipe of bakpia chocolate. Note: you can make the chocolate filling the day before and keep it in the refrigerator.
Ingredients of chocolate filling:
75 gr unsalted butter
50 gr all purpose flour
150 gr powdered sugar
100 gr powdered milk
50 gr cocoa powder
150 ml water
Methods:
Mix in a bowl: the flour, sugar, milk, and cocoa powder.
Pour the water little by little, stirring constantly until smooth.
Cook over low heat, stirring until cooked and the dough is not sticky. Done.
Ingredients of dough A:

Mixed well.
Additional ingredients:

Sesame seeds

Rolled dough, then fold to opposite direction. Do this on all the dough. Let stand for one hour.

After one hour, flatten the dough, and put the chocolate filling on top of the dough, then wrap the chocolate filling with the dough, make a ball. Repeat with all dough.

Brush the egg yolk on top of the ball, and sprinkle the top with sesame seeds.
Then bake for 10 minutes. Let it be cool.
Now you and your teenager can enjoy the chocolate bakpia with tea or coffee… and music! Yummy!
Anyway, my teenage son decides to make a bigger bakpia in the next time. He will divide the dough into 30 parts so that he will not only make a bigger bakpia, but also shorten the time it takes to make bakpia. Clever!
